Story
To apply to adopt Sur, please fill out an adoption application at www.evenchance.org/adopt and we will be in touch! For specific questions please email us at info@evenchance.org To check out more pics and video of me go to: https://www.instagram.com/stories/highlights/18392453749026296/ What is your name? Hi! My name is Big Sur, but you can call me “Sur” My name is fun because when I am doing a good job people say to me, “Good Sur!” or if I make a bad choice, like if I impulsively try to chase a squirrel, you might hear them say, “No, Sur!” Ha! How old are you? I'm about 2-years-old What do you look like? My foster mom says that not only am I a BIG SUR, I am also a very handsome boy that embodies her favorite place on California's coast! She says my fur is the color of sandy beaches, and my golden eyes glow like the California sunset. With my ultimate beach body and custom waterproof ocean blue collar, I am the total beach package. What do you like to eat? I love all food… my dog food meals, my training treats, my peanut butter Kongs and bananas! What kind of personality do you have? I am a social boy. I really love hanging with my people. I have a lot of energy but I also tire out really easily compared to my smaller pit bull housemates. I do need to do something active every day or I can get unruly, but as long as I get a big walk (or 2) or a good exercise session of fetch, disc, springpole or swimming each day I am a rock star in my kennel or hanging in the house. Describe your typical day: I am very much a boy of routine. I am a healthy mix of energy and lazy. On a perfect day I wake up and eat breakfast and go my 1.5 mile walk to and through the park. During the day, depending on who is home, I rotate between chilling in my large kennel and hanging out in the house with my foster family. I love playtime and training in the evening and I am a perfect angel in my kennel at night. What is your favorite toy? I LOVE TOYS. I love them all and possibly a little too much, ha! In the house I can only have my bones and Kongs, but outside under supervision, I get to play with the fun stuff like ChuckIt! balls, frisbees, etc. I can get a little possessive with my toys, but I am much better than when I first broke out of the shelter. I used to really worry that my toy might be taken away forever, so I tried to keep it to myself. But, my foster mom has taught me how much more fun it is to play with someone than by yourself as well as she showed me how fun trading games can be! I also LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to play tug. I was born for that game. Do you know any tricks? I have the BEST sit ever. I not only do it the second someone asks me to, but I also do it all the time just to show you how good of a boy I am. I know down and I am learning to heel too! Do you like cats? I knew this question would come up. Here is the thing. I was born with this superpower called prey drive. My mom says its genetic and you can’t change genetics, so we might as well embrace it. Prey drive can make training and playing with me very fun because I love to chase balls, treats, etc. However, my prey drive can get me in trouble too because squirrels, birds, bunnies, cats, etc are all things that I would also very much like to chase and catch. And with a boy of my size and determination, this is one superpower my family will always need to be aware of and manage responsibly. Do you have any doggie best friends? I do, yes, but only one. Her name is Luna and she is a pint-sized female pit bull that will play ROUGH with me and also tell me off when I get to be too much. I kind of like it when she tells me off. Unfortunately, my play skills are equivalent to a linebacker trying to play a game of tag. I come in HOT, full of energy and excitement and I really don't realize my own strength or size. I am often overbearing and unintentionally rough and for whatever reason other dogs don’t seem to appreciate it. I am not reactive in my crate or behind the doggie gates, all of the other dogs say hi to me and I like it. I also walk beautifully next to the whole family pack of pit bulls. It’s just that free play that gets me in trouble. There is a chance I may do well with a female dog similar to Luna, but other than that, I am likely best as your only bro dog. If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be? Do you mean besides chasing squirrels in the backyard? HA! Actually, this is easy to answer, I just want to be with my person wherever are going! How is your health? When animal control found me as a stray I had heartworms, but I am now completely cured and a healthy, active boy. Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion? I live with a foster dad, mom, 2 school-aged human kids and 4 other pit bulls. Where do you hang out when you are home alone? I hang out in my crate when I’m home alone. Where do you sleep? I usually spend the night my crate, but sometimes my foster dad will sleep on the couch next to me, those are the best nights! What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parents? I was picked up as a stray and brought to County Animal Control. The shelter life was stressing me out, so my foster mom broke me out and brought me home to Even Chance! Even Chance does not operate on a first come, first serve basis. In most cases we have already decided the type of home and owner we want for our dogs. These opinions are based on the temperament tests we perform prior to accepting the dog into our program and the behaviors the dogs display as they spend time in our homes. Our agency reserves the right to deny acceptance of any dog to an owner who we feel the lifestyle does not match that of the dog. We are in no way judging you or your lifestyle; we simply want to put our dogs in the best living situation possible. We take very seriously the decision we make when it comes to placing one of our dogs in a forever home. If I sound like the perfect pit bull for you and your family and you are interested in giving me a forever home, do not hesitate! Please fill out an application at www.evenchance.org/adopt and my foster family will contact you to schedule an in-person meet and greet. We look forward to meeting any and all interested applicants.

Story
I've been sponsored by the Petfinder Kia Grant to help reduce adoption fees. Thanks to the wonderful Petfinder Foundation my adoption fee is only $25.00! My name is Kevin! I'm a 3 year old German Shepherd/Weimeriner mix (I have 10 other breeds too, check out the DNA results in my photos!). I came to the shelter as a stray and unfortunetly, have been at the shelter since and that was over a year ago...I'm really a good boy I just got a bad start in life. I'm going to be blunt- I don't like other dogs and wouldn't do good in a home with cats, but I can make up that extra want for another animal with my love. I have tons of it to give, so no need to have any other pets with me around :) I love belly rubs, going for car rides, and playing in the water. I really just need that special someone that is willing to give me the time and patience to love me and train me. I've had 7 weeks of obidence training under my belt and I'd love to continue my training as I am highly food motivated. I've learned a few things such as "sit" and "lay down" but I know once the right person comes along I will learn TONS more! If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##1626379##

Hi there! I'm BiBo, a 1 year old Heeler mix with tons of love to share! I'm a sweet and happy girl that was found wandering, but luckily someone swooped in and offered to help me out! I'm living with a foster now and he says I am a good girl. I've got a great little personality and would love to be someone's furever friend. I do good with other dogs and love to play. Story
I've been sponsored by the Petfinder Kia Grant to help reduce adoption fees. Thanks to the wonderful Petfinder Foundation my adoption fee is only $25.00! Hiya, I'm Finn! I am a 3 year old German Shepherd/Husky mix (best guess). I'm quite the chatterbox. I love to 'talk' to anyone who'll listen. It's my way of saying, 'Hey, let's be friends!' I've got enough energy to keep up with the most active of families, but I'm also a champion snuggler when it's time to wind down. I'm looking for a forever home with someone who loves playtime and cuddles as much as I do. If you need a brave, loyal, and hilarious sidekick, I'm your guy! I do good with other dogs as long as we are properly intoduced. However, I do need a home without cats as I like to chase them. I woul ddo best in a home iwth older children due to my active nature. Did I mention I'm working on training right now? Well I am and I can tell you that I am the best at 'sit' and 'down' that any dog could ever be! Adopt me and I promise you won't regret it.
