Story
Meeko came to the shelter back in October as a young puppy. He was surrendered due to the family having too much going on in the home and being unable to properly care for him. He lived with kids of all ages in the home and did well with them. He was adopted and retuned a few months later due to the health of the owner. The adopter reported that he will chew things up and become destructive in the house if not crated when left alone. We are unsure if Meeko has met cats. He does very well in playgroup with other dogs and even has a few yard mates. Check out our Facebook page (Paws and Claws Rescue & Resort) to see videos of Meeko in playgroup. Meeko has shown resource guarding here in shelter-he's a total foodie and will snap if his food is messed with. Staff have worked with him by holding the food dish while he eats and he has done very well. His adopters should know to respect his space while he eats or chews on any sort of bone. Because he is so food motivated and so smart, teaching tricks and commands should be easy! Although Meeko likes to give us a hard time with his typical husky attitude, he has quickly become a staff favorite here and loves getting pets and affection. If you're looking for a rewarding adoption with lots of love and a bit of training, Meeko might be the pup for you. Call 218-675-7297 for more info.

Story
Milo came to the shelter as a transfer from Texas a while ago. Milo is a huge snuggle bug that doesn't know a thing about personal space. We believe he is a Boxer mix. He has spent some time up in the office with staff and doesn't seem to mind the office cat. We are unsure if he has met kids, we think he would be friendly towards them but may knock little ones over. He is an 80lb excitable and wiggly boy! Milo has done amazing with other dogs in shelter. Check out our Facebook page (Paws and Claws Rescue & Resort) to see videos of Milo in playgroup. Milo is crate trained but could use some work on the leash. He does best with a nose loop style leash, it really helps his pulling. A staff member brought Milo home for the night and reported he was wonderful. He was well mannered in the house and found a quiet spot to nap most of the time. He likes to be close and is always in the mood for a cuddle puddle. He is also great at keeping any squirrels out of the yard! Call 218-675-7297 for more info. Here is a note from Milo's foster in Texas: Milo is super friendly towards humans and dogs. I don’t think he has a mean bone in his body. Our dog can be picky with dogs he interacts with and Milo responded very well to our dog’s space and reactions. He needs a little training on the leash and on his jumping manners but he’s super trainable and wants to please. Responds well to treats as motivation.

Story
Smiley came to the shelter as a stray, she is super friendly with everyone here. The finder's say she did well with their kids and that she has killed chickens. She is not fully house broke so will need a home who can help teach her. Although Smiley is crated trained, she is not a fan of being in her kennel at the shelter. She seems to be anxious in her kennel as her husky instincts want to keep on running! She is not reliable off leash and would love a fenced yard. Smiley does lovely with other dogs as well. Check out our Facebook page (Paws and Claws Rescue & Resort) to see videos of Smiley in playgroup! She also loves to talk and howl to you when she's excited. She has the sweetest little "awooo"! Story
Popeye came to the shelter as a stray, he was found with another dog who has since been adopted. Popeye has done well when meeting all staff members. He is overly excitable and will need an adopter that can teach him boundaries and basic manners. We are unsure if he has ever been introduced to cats or kids. He has done well in playgroup but does seem to have a more dominant demeanor towards other dogs which some dogs may not appreciate. Popeye walks nicely on leash and did well with crate testing during his evaluation. Popeye has skin allergies so will needs to be on meds and/or a special diet. His goofy personality and adorable face will totally win you over! Call 218-675-7297 for more info.

Story
Ruby came to the shelter as a stray so we don't know much about where she came from. We think she was likely an outdoor dog, being indoors seems very unfamiliar to her. Since she arrived she has been timid and unsure of her surroundings. Despite being nervous, she has been so tolerant of all handling and cares. We don't think she has a mean bone in her body. She has slowly warmed up to staff and loves to go on walks. Being outside seems to get her out of her shell and her tail wagging. She has shown a lot of interest in the other dogs so getting her in playgroup has started to build her confidence. When other dogs are around it makes her feel safe and shows her that she can trust us. She would love to be adopted into a home with another dog. Ruby has spent some time up in the office with staff and proved she is actually quite mischievous (she is a counter surfer and apparently likes to be tall-a staff member found her all fours on top of the desk!) She came around quickly and got quite comfy being around the staff, she curled up on the bed in the office to nap. She didn't pay any mind to the office cat either so would do fine in a home with cats. She did well with the leash and crate testing part of her evaluation. Ruby is currently in foster and the foster reports she is doing great. She is not house trained so will need an adopter with the patience to teach her. She spends most of her time napping in the dog bed and has been overall an easy dog to handle. If you're looking for a quiet companion to keep you company, Ruby would be a good fit for you. Labrador Retriever Retriever (Unknown Type)

Story
Unicorn came to the shelter as a stray so we don't know much about where she came from. She has been very sweet with staff since arriving here. We guess her to be about 10 years old so this senior lady is looking for a quiet home to live out the rest of her years to the fullest. The finder's said Unicorn did great with their kids. She was tested with cats in the shelter and doesn't mind them at all. She was more interested in receiving affection from her handler. Unicorn was tolerant of other dogs in playgroup but did growl and snap at dogs too close in her space. She was adopted and returned a few days later due to going after the other dog in the home. She is indifferent towards dogs in the same vicinity as her, as long as they are not in her personal bubble. We think in Unicorn's old age she is going to prefer to be the only dog in the home. Unicorn needs some help learning how to properly walk on leash, as well as learning that a crate can be a safe space for her. This lazy girl is looking for a couch to nap on and an owner to love. Call 218-675-7297 for more info.
