Story
Grizz / Male / 1 years / 50 lbs / Terrier Cross / Good with Children / Good with Dogs / Untested with Cats / From Tennessee / Fostered in Mississauga **Follow Grizz’s journey on instagram @adoptgrizz ** Meet Grizz! Grizz came to us from Tennessee where he was found as a stray and faced the risk of euthanasia at the local pound. Luckily, he was transferred to our partner sanctuary, who connected him to us. Now that he has settled into foster care in Canada, he is ready to find his furever home. Grizz is described by his fosters as happy, confident and playful. Despite his rough start, he is full of life and spunk. Grizz loves to play and is still very puppy-like in his activities. He is always ready for playtime and will greet you excitedly with whichever toy is closest. Whether indoors for a game of tug, or outdoors running around and burying himself in the snow, Grizz is ready to have fun. Grizz is quite the social butterfly. He loves to meet new people and assumes everyone wants to be his best friend. As a young dog, he is still learning to keep his excited paws on the ground. Grizz will redirect and is content to just be nearby if it is not the time to play. He loves his people and welcomes others into his pack. The more love and attention the better! Grizz has met and done well with children over 12. He would do great in a home with dog-savvy, respectful children, especially if they want to join in all his playtime fun. He can be over-excited and jumpy at times, so supervision and training would be key with younger children. With Grizz’s high energy and love of the outdoors, his ideal home would have a fenced yard where he could get some zoomies out each day. He is still adjusting to city life and loud noises; large vehicles make him nervous. A home in a quieter area, with lots of opportunities for exploring would be great. Grizz is just as social with dogs as he is with humans. He would make a great second dog, especially with one who has his zest for life. Opportunities to socialize with other dogs will be important as he loves to connect and play with dogs he meets. Although he is excitable and puppy-like, Grizz does read other dogs' language and will respect their boundaries if they seem uninterested. Grizz has not met cats yet and is looking for a cat-free home at this time. At one year old, Grizz is very energetic and will require lots of exercise and mental stimulation each day. He is gradually learning his leash manners and that city noises are ok. While out on walks, Grizz can get excited and pull but redirects and likes to be close to his human. As a hunting breed he loves to keep busy and is very alert. Multiple walks each day, time to run off leash, and puzzles will be important in keeping him occupied. Considering how new he is to home life, Grizz has wonderful house manners. He is house trained, crate trained and respectful of counters and furniture. While he does not like to be alone, Grizz will spend time in his crate with no issues for about 4-6 hours at a time. If his humans are home, he prefers to be where they are. Grizz can jump very high and will try to escape where he is to find you if you are in the house. Grizz’s new family should be prepared to continue in his training and working with his ability to be independent. While we can’t guarantee Grizz is hypoallergenic, he’s likely low-shedding and will need regular grooming to keep him looking his best. Grizz’s vibrant personality is intact. He’s ready to fill your life with joy, love, and unforgettable memories. When he came into care, Grizz tested positive for Ehrlichia which is a tick-borne disease that can stay in the bloodstream for many years. Further testing confirmed that the Ehrlichia is in a dormant state and Grizz should not experience any clinical symptoms. It is recommended that Ehrlichia positive dogs get an annual blood test to monitor the anaplasmosis and that any pre-op blood work should include a CBC test and platelet count before any surgeries or dental extractions. If you’re interested in adopting Grizz, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Grizz's adoption fee is $850. Story
Yara / F / 3Y / 33 lbs / Egyptian Baladi Mix / Needs slow introductions with dogs / No children please / No cats please / From Egypt / Fostered in Toronto Follow Yara’s journey on Instagram @yaragirlpup Meet Yara! Yara was rescued after being dumped in a scrapyard in Egypt when she was just a few months old. She was nursed back to health and has since made the big trip to Canada. Yara's fosters describe her as a completely loveable little lady. She is gentle, polite, and affectionate. She can be a bit shy to start out but once she knows you, it is love and pets all day long. She will bring her head to your hand and just rest there. With people she knows, Yara is friendly and prefers to be nearby where she can soak up attention when she wants, or just be close to her pack. Yara can be hesitant, and sometimes vocal, when meeting new people so slow introductions are crucial. She needs time to observe and feel safe in new surroundings and with new people. Yara has had mixed experiences with children in the past, so we are recommending a child-free home at this time. The ideal home for Yara would be with a family that will include her in daily activities and advocate for her when out. A home in a quieter neighbourhood would be best as Yara is nervous of loud noises and busy streets. A yard where she can explore and lounge would be a bonus as she loves to be outside. Access to greenspace will be a necessity for Yara. Yara is a true sweetheart, who likes to take things slow. She is ready for a patient family who is willing to help her feel safe and loved. Yara needs proper, slow introductions with other dogs. She can be reactive with dogs on the street, especially if they are bigger than her. That being said, Yara has lived with other dogs in the past and done well. She enjoyed going for walks together and having their company in the house. Yara prefers the company of a calm, smaller dog. Yara has lived with cats in the past, but does have a high prey drive, so a cat-free home would be best. Yara absolutely loves being outdoors and enjoys walks, especially ones involving nature trails. Exploring new smells and places is one of her favourite things to do. She also loves to climb up on walls, or logs, as she explores. Yara thoroughly enjoys walks and is making good progress with loose leash training. That said, she will pull if she sees squirrels or birds and can be reactive in busy environments. A quiet neighbourhood street is her dream ‘go for a walk’ scenario. Yara is wonderful within the house. She has great manners and does well when left alone. She was crate-trained in the past, but shows no signs of anxiety or destructive behaviours so she is able to free roam. Yara tends not to use her crate in the house but does enjoy having it when she goes for car rides. Yara is not super food-motivated, but you can win her over with chicken and cheese. She already knows her basic commands and is house-trained. She enjoys playing with a snuffle-mat after she has finished dinner. If you’re interested in adopting Yara, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Yara’s adoption fee is $850. Story
Kiko / M / 7Y / 55 lbs / Mixed Breed / No dogs please / Older Kids Preferred / No cats please/ From Mexico / Fostered in Oshawa ** Follow Kiko’s journey on Instagram @Fostertails_crae_and_friends ** Meet Kiko! Kiko is one resilient guy. Originally from Mexico, he used to live alone on a rooftop for most of his life. He stole the hearts of everyone at the shelter and they quickly realized he was a very special boy who deserved a shot at the good life in Canada. Despite everything he has been through, this handsome boy is described by his fosters as gentle, sweet, loving, affectionate, eager to please, easygoing, and low maintenance. He has a gentle heart and will really start to thrive once he gets a sense of permanence and belonging in his family. He is ready for a family committed to helping him reach his full potential! Kiko’s favourite activities are cuddling, getting pets, scritches, and belly rubs from his people. He will use his beautiful brown eyes and lay his head on your lap to let you know he wants pets. He loves being close to his humans and gently pressing his body against them when he wants cuddles. He will give vigorous tail wags when his people return or come into the room. He will also give lots of little kisses to express his affection. Kiko enjoys being outdoors and gets multiple walks a day. He currently gets 2 good walks plus a few shorter outdoor breaks during the day. Kiko walks very well on leash and enjoys trotting alongside his human. He will match his pace to whoever is walking him, he doesn’t pull, and is easily corrected. He is curious and loves to sniff and prefers a quieter neighbourhood where there are not too many loud vehicles or encounters with strangers or other dogs. Kiko does not enjoy meeting other dogs on leash and will require a handler who can advocate for his space and ensure he is not put in an uncomfortable position. In the house, Kiko is a dream. This handsome boy has perfect manners to match his good looks and charms. He loves his humans and wants to be close to them whenever they are around but also does well on his own. He will adapt to a new routine easily and is very go with the flow. He is not at all destructive and is trusted with free roam in the house. Kiko has several favourite toys and will play with them to entertain himself when left alone. He enjoys chewing on his kongs, balls, and stuffed toys but is not destructive. Kiko has been left for up to four hours on his own and has been perfectly fine. He calms down quickly and is not crated. He mostly chills out in the area where his dog bed and toys are located, or will curl up on the couch and snooze. Kiko doesn’t enjoy being crated, but given his good manners it is not necessary. Kiko settles quickly at night on a dog bed in his fosters’ room and sleeps through the night without issue. Kiko needs slow and proper introductions to new people. He is not a dog that will run up to anyone. He needs to be approached slowly and respectfully. Kiko warms up quickly and after that he loves getting pets from anyone and everyone. Kiko has not met any children but would likely be fine with older, dog savvy children. He is not a dog that will like rambunctious play or grabbing hands. Kiko does not seem to enjoy other dogs. On walks he will usually avoid other dogs and walk away from any he meets. He would do best as the only dog in the home. Kiko has not been cat tested. He has shown mild curiosity when he sees cats on walks but hasn’t been reactive. Kiko has basic obedience skills, is very attuned to his people and is eager to please. He pays close attention to body language, voice tone, and eye contact and never wants to do anything that might displease or inconvenience his people. He is described as extremely sensitive, observant and considerate. Kiko is the perfect companion for a single person or adult couple, where he would be the only pet in the home. He would do best in a quiet neighbourhood and would strongly prefer a yard where he could hang out without meeting too many other dogs. Kiko is muzzle trained and needs a family that will advocate for his space when meeting new or unfamiliar people and dogs, and who will help his confidence going up and down stairs. He will also need a family who is committed to working on his leash etiquette, obedience training and overall confidence. Kiko just needs a lot of affection, love, and support from his humans to feel safe. Once he trusts you, he will do anything for you. If you’re interested in adopting Kiko, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Kiko’s adoption fee is $550. Lua / Female / 1 year old / 35 lbs / Boxer Mix / No dogs please / Good with cats / Good with older children / From Mexico / Fostered in Oakville Meet Lua! Lua came to us from Mexico, where she lived in a vacant lot with no roof or shelter. She gave birth to a litter of four puppies while tied up to the fence of the lot. Our wonderful partners in Mexico cut the chain she was tied to and took the mama and her puppies to safety. Lua is one of these puppies, rescued from a life of neglect and ready to find a loving home. Lua is a sweet girl with the most expressive eyes. Her fosters describe her as affectionate, curious and playful. Lua adores her people and is always ready to snuggle. She even believes she is tiny and will make herself fit on your lap, no matter how awkwardly she has to lay. Lua would love nothing more than to be in a home where she can be showered with love and attention. Lua is best friends with her trusted humans. She will stay close by and can be protective in nature. With new people Lua prefers to assess, sniff and take time. Once she feels comfortable she will shower them with the same love and affections. Lua is a bit more nervous around men, and is working with her fosters to learn that they can be safe too. Lua has met older children and done well. She could live in a home with respectful, dog-savvy children. With patience, decompression time and support Lua will show her loving nature to her humans. Lua is looking for a home in a quieter neighbourhood. City sounds and passing cars are new to her and make her feel nervous. A home with a yard where she can play would be ideal, but as long as she has access to greenspace she will do well. Lua is the type of dog that will thrive wherever her humans are, as she loves to be part of the pack. Lua is currently looking for a home where she is the only dog. She has had positive interactions with other dogs in the past, but can be defensive when sharing her space. Lua will set boundaries for herself and does not seem bothered by other dogs she passes on walks. With proper introductions Lua would enjoy socializing outside of her home. Lua currently lives with a cat and does well. She has shown both curiosity towards the cat and respect for the cats boundaries. As a young girl, Lua will require lots of outlets for her energy. She currently gets two walks each day. Lua is doing well on leash so far. She loves to sniff and explore as she goes. Lua will stop when a car goes by, and tends to avoid other people, but she is gaining more confidence each day. Lua is very good at looking to her trusted humans for reassurance while on walks. Indoors, Lua enjoys enrichment activities and is learning the joy of playing with toys. Lua is making great progress with her basic training. She enjoys learning and making her humans proud, so working with her is great! Lua is crate trained, spending time in one when she is home alone, and overnight. She is housetrained, but her new family should be prepared for a transition period and possible accidents. Life indoors is new for Lua, but she is learning her house manners fairly quickly. Lua prefers to be where her people are, but will settle in adjacent rooms to nap, or chew a toy. Lua is a sweet girl with the biggest heart, waiting to find her forever family that is ready to give her the time and attention to learn how to be the best companion. If you're interested in adopting Lua, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Lua's adoption fee is $850. Story
Larry / Male / 10 months / 52lbs / Mix Breed / Great Second Dog / Likely Good with Kids / Not Tested with Cats / From Tennessee / Fostered in Scarborough Meet Larry! Larry was found abandoned with his siblings as a very young pup. Luckily he was taken into rescue and has since made his way to Ontario in search of a loving home. Larry's foster describes him as sweet, playful, loving, and very cuddly. Larry is a one of a kind guy destined to steal your heart. Larry is a playful dude who loves playing with toys, zooming around in the backyard, and cuddling on the couch with you. When all that is done, he likes resting in his crate. He has an adorable underbite to go with his personality, and big floppy feet. He is convinced he's a lap dog and loves being close to his people and is very friendly, cuddly, and loving. Larry is still a puppy and can be clumsy but also adorable with the sweetest disposition. Larry is gaining confidence every day and enjoys his walks. He is cautious of big trucks or buses when out on walks. He is interested in meeting new people and other dogs and will sometimes pull towards them but can be redirected. He gets 2 walks a day of 40-45 minutes, plus zoomie playtime in the backyard. Larry also enjoys treat puzzles and chewing on carrots or bully sticks, and chew toys. Larry is a bit shy when meeting new people but warms up quickly, especially if treats are involved. Larry has a very sweet disposition and with proper intros he would do well with dog savvy kids. He still has some puppy energy and may jump or nip so younger kids may not be ideal for him. Larry currently lives with two other dogs and does great with them. He likely appreciates their guidance and would love a forever home with a resident dog to play and show him the ropes. Larry has not been tested with cats and we are not sure how he would do with them. Larry is crated when left alone and has done well. He settles easily in his crate and will sleep while his fosters are out. He has been left for up to an hour and a half without issue. He also sleeps in his crate while his foster works from home and hasn't shown any signs of separation anxiety. Larry sleeps through the night in his crate without issue. Larry is potty trained if given adequate potty breaks. He may need an adjustment period when he changes homes. Larry is working on basic commands but is super treat motivated and eager to learn. Larry's confidence is growing with a little structure and positive reassurance. As a condition of the adoption contract, Larry’s new family will be required to attend and complete a basic obedience class at their own cost (proof required). Larry would do great in most homes but would love a house with a yard outside the downtown core. He could easily join a family with other dogs, or dog savvy kids. Larry's size and playful nature make him a great companion for older kids, and he’s sure to bring lots of love and laughter to any home. If you're looking for a sweet, goofy pup to share your adventures with, Larry is ready to fill your life with joy! If you’re interested in adopting Larry, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form. Larry's adoption fee is $900. Visit https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info for more info on mandatory supplies. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Eros / Male / 1.5 years old / 60 lbs / Lab Cross / Good with Dogs / Untested with Children / No Cats Please / From Mexico / Fostered in Toronto Follow Ero's adventures on Instagram @era_era_eros Welcome to the Eros Tour! This little god of love is active, full of life, and very ready to meet his forever family. Eros is a cuddle bug who is sweet, playful, and will be sure to bring a smile to your face. Eros has a big personality and a big heart. He is game for just about anything, whether it is heading out for a sniffy walk, pets and belly rubs, rolling and playing on the grass, or just chilling out on his bed. Eros is an active guy and loves walks and indoor enrichment like a snuffle mat or peanut butter kong. He is medium energy. When getting ready for his walks, Eros will give full body wiggles to show his enthusiasm. He loves to cuddle and has little respect for personal space (in a very cute and endearing way!). He likes to snuggle under your arm and give you hugs and kisses. He is an entertaining companion and sure to bring lots of laughs. Eros may take a moment to meet and warm up to new people but once he does he is nothing but loving and attentive. Eros currently gets two walks between 30-45 minutes each, plus play time in the backyard, potty breaks, and indoor and outdoor enrichment such as treat puzzles, frozen lick mats, or foraging games. He can pull on leash when he finds something very interesting but can be redirected. He may react to other dogs he sees on leash by crying or barking and may react to strangers by becoming tense and growling or barking, especially if strange men approach him. Sometimes he has no problem passing people on the street. His fosters are working on this will him by giving him space from strangers and redirecting his attention to them or blocking his view until he calms down. In the house, Eros wants to be close to his people. He has been left both in and out of the crate and while he is not destructive, he is vocal and will cry and bark for up to 20 minutes. His fosters are working on this with him but his adoptive family should be prepared to continue helping him cope with this anxiety. Eros sleeps through the night on his bed in his fosters' room. Eros is working on basic training and knows sit, down, and is working on stay and recall (has not been tested off-leash). He is potty trained. His adoptive family will need to continue working on basic obedience with him. Eros previously lived with another dog and did well with him but sometimes he can't take a hint and got in the other dog's face. He really wants to play and can't always take cues from other dogs. He would likely do very well with a playful, patient dog who can tolerate his puppy antics and show him the ropes, but would also be fine as the only dog in the home. Eros hasn't been exposed to cats and is looking for a cat-free home. Eros' perfect family will be active and patient as he gets comfortable and builds his confidence. He would do great in a house with a backyard to run around and burn some energy. He would do well with older, dog-savvy kids (10+) but his enthusiastic style of play might be too much for smaller children. He needs a committed family who can work with him on basic obedience, and boosting his confidence. Eros has all the makings of an exceptional family pet and we can't wait for this very good boy to find his special family. Eros is a flight risk and our top priority in his furever home is safety. His forever family must take precautions to keep him safe and secure, including the purchase of a GPS tracker which will be required for adoption. If you're interested in fostering with the intention of adopting, please apply at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/adoption-info#adoption-form Eros' adoption has been sponsored by F+R. To learn more about our adoption fees and the foster-to-adopt process, please visit our FAQs at https://www.fetchandreleash.ca/about-us#about-faqs.
