Story
Ben is a sweet boy but likes to check out humans from a distance at first. Once he decides your OK which happens pretty quickly, he is very friendly. He's OK on a leash after a few minutes of excitement. He has lots of Lab qualities, retrieving etc. He is a typical Lab/Staffie mix. He would have to be introduced to a doggie friend but so far seems OK with them. He will need someone who can give him a routine and boundaries. He would be best in a home with kids over 10 years old. He loves his toys and loves to play. And look at that smile!

Story
Lola is a young 1-2 year old Lab mix. She's a large, active, energetic girl that would benefit from some basic training and boundaries. She loves to run and play, because of her size a home with older children is best. Once she settles she is very gentle and sweet, she loves pets and belly rubs. She'd be great for someone who does a lot of outdoor activities and would make a great hiking buddy.

Story
Chess’s Backstory: Chess was taken into an overcrowded animal control facility where they euthanize due to lack of space. Animal Saints Rescue Society was asked to get him out safely to give him a second chance at life. Breed and Hair Notes: Chess has hair and not fur. He appears to be a stunning blend of Yorkshire Terrier and Havanese. Perhaps another breed is represented as well? What do you see? PLEASE NOTE: Chess’s hair will grow indefinitely, and he will need professional grooming. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost that these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care. Get to Know Chess: Age: 1 Weight: 10-11 pounds Neutered: yes Current Vaccines and Tests: Rabies vaccine: yes Distemper vaccine: yes Bordetella vaccine: yes Flea and tick prevention: yes Heartworm test: yes, negative De-wormer treatment: yes Additional Care: Grooming: Chess was just de-matted and groomed. He is very young and still getting used to a grooming routine, but he was patient and agreeable — even to a hair trim around his eyes. Potty routine: Chess goes potty on pads in the sanctuary as well as goes outside during playtime. To get him settled into a routine based on your schedule and direction for where to go potty, you’ll need to keep him in a designated place with potty pads initially. TO SEE A VIDEO OF CHESS, VISIT OUR VIMEO PAGE: https://vimeo.com/1043823599?share=copy Personality: If you are looking for youth, vitality, energy, and exuberance for life, Chess is your boy! He’s the fastest runner in our sanctuary garden. He jumps for joy at the sight of food and when he knows he’s going to get attention. At the same time, this bubbly demeanor can be quickly reined in. He had no training when he first arrived, but we have given him a few training lessons to teach him how to be a proper gent without diminishing his joy of living. So far, he now knows sit and here. He is SO smart, and he will love attending training classes with you! What Chess needs in his lifetime family. Is it you? Routine and Training Chess’s youth and eagerness to learn makes him an ideal student for positive reinforcement training classes. He is so much fun and so ready to please! Chess could be okay as an only dog in a home, provided he could meet dog friends nearby often and had lots of toys and puzzles with which to play. However, we see Chess love the company of other dogs and sleeps in the same bed with other fosters here in our sanctuary. It would be great to have a well-mannered, slightly older dog so he could follow their lead. If you need to be gone for a few hours every day, having other playful dogs in the home would be best for Chess. Chess is young and needs exercise in order to be happy. If you have a fenced-in yard, this will be ideal for him. If you like to go for walks, he would like to go with you. Chess will be best in a home where there are older, respectful children. He is in need of experienced adults who understand dog behavior like Chess, ready to guide a young dog into adulthood. Love and Commitment At Animal Saints Rescue Society, our goal is to keep dogs out of overcapacity animal control facilities and out of a re-homing cycle. We place the dogs we save into lifetime families. With this in mind, we seek families who understand that an adoption is a lifetime commitment. The families who adopt from us believe that love is not a feeling, it is a decision. Some humans still believe it’s okay to try out a dog for a few weeks, a few months, or even a few years — then discard when they get bored or don’t want to deal with emotional or physical ailments. We are looking for the empathetic, kind, and patient humans in this world who view these Animal Saints as family, and they will do whatever it takes to give them what they need. Will that family be you? We look forward to finding out and receiving your application! Requested adoption donation fee is a minimum of $650. This is to partly cover his medical expenses that our 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue incurred to give him a second chance at life.

To get him settled into a routine based on your schedule and direction for where to go potty, you’ll need to keep him in a designated place with potty pads initially. Personality: Jeffie is very much in need of a person. When he is with our volunteers, he is more interested in them than the other dogs. He asks to get picked up so he can give and receive hugs. Jeffie is young, but he has a gentleness about him that is endearing. He is one of the quieter fosters in our sanctuary at present, and he seems to hang out with the older dogs in the group. He can certainly play with the more exuberant and youthful here, but he is finished playing when the others still continue. He starts to look for the humans again so he can get another hug. Jeffie’s most endearing quality is that he loves to dance. Any chance he gets, he will dance and walk about on his back legs! What Jeffie needs in his lifetime family. Is it you? Routine and Training Jeffie’s youth makes him in ideal student for positive reinforcement training classes. He is very sensitive and eager to please. Story
Paisley’s Backstory: Paisley was taken into an overcrowded animal control facility where they euthanize due to lack of space. Animal Saints Rescue Society was asked to get her out safely to give her a second chance at life. Paisley was loved by someone at some point in life, but she was left as a stray and found neglected. She had never been spayed. Breed and Hair Notes: Paisley has hair and not fur. She is a beautiful blend of Shih Tzu and possibly Lhasa Apso. Perhaps another breed is represented as well? Whatever the blend, she is a Saint. She has a beautiful blend of brown and white hair. She has been shaved, but it is already starting to grow out into a lovely fluff. She will have gorgeous long hair if you want it to grow out. PLEASE NOTE: Paisley’s hair will grow indefinitely, and she will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost that these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care. Get to Know Paisley: Age: 2 Weight: 18.5 pounds Spayed: yes Current Vaccines and Tests: Rabies vaccine: yes Distemper vaccine: yes Bordetella vaccine: yes Flea and tick prevention: yes Heartworm test: yes, negative De-wormer treatment: yes Personality: Paisley is all love. All she’d like to do is cuddle up in your lap and fall asleep on her back. She’s so eager to stay in a person’s lap that she’ll wrap her front legs around your arm and won’t let go. It seems she is trying to make up for lost time, so eager to love and be loved. Even though she loves being hugged and cuddled, she has youthful energy and a love for life! She loves to run about in the garden, and we can see her being an excellent walking companion. Potty routine: Paisley is great about going on potty pads indoors at the sanctuary. She also goes outside whenever we take her out. To get her settled into your routine and direction for where to go potty, you’ll need to keep her in a designated place with potty pads initially or take her out every hour initially if you just want her to potty outside. This will reinforce where you want her to go. Personality: Paisley is so full of love and life. She greets every human with a tail wag, and she wants to interact with everyone. She is not afraid of any volunteer so far and will approach all humans who show her kindness and respect. She is sweet, loving, and so easy to hug. With this in mind, we know she will be happiest in a home where her people are there most of the time. Paisley is the kind of girl who would enjoy coming along with you as you run errands, too. If you’re looking for a sidekick in all things, she’s up for it! Paisley would be okay as an only dog in a home, provided she could meet dog friends nearby often. However, we see Paisley love the company of other dogs, and she plays and wrestles a lot with the other younger fosters here in our sanctuary.
