Story
Hey there, I'm Tony. Life hasn't exactly been a walk in the park for me, but I'm hoping to find my slice of canine paradise. I'm a handsome guy, with a heart as big as New York City! I was once a lone ranger, navigating the bustling streets with nothing but my wits and instincts. Found as a stray, I've faced my fair share of challenges, but they've only made me stronger. I've had a bit of rough start to life, but I'm tough and my resilient spirit shines through every day. Yeah, I might get a bit nervous in new situations, but give me a little patience and a lotta love, and I'll warm up to ya quicker than you can say "fuggedaboutit."At around 4 years old, I'm the perfect mix of energetic and cuddly. I love playtime and I'm always up for an adventure, but I also cherish quiet moments and snuggles on the couch. I am a polite walker, and tend to stick to my guardians side. I thrive on companionship and will flourish in a calm, understanding home that can provide me with the stability I crave.Because of my past, I'm not quite sure how I am with other pets or kids, and staff think I would do best as the only dog in the home. I find men very intimidating, and may do best in a household with female guardians. Despite everything, my loyalty and affection know no bounds. I'm eager to find a forever home where I can feel safe, loved, and part of a family. If you've got a big heart and a little extra patience, come meet me and let my charming smile and gentle soul steal your heart. Whaddaya say? Give this guy a chance-you won't regret it! Story
Name: Annie OakleyBreed: German Shepherd mixAge: 4 yrsGender: feWgt/Hgt: 55 lbs / 22 inches Highlights: playful, tripaw, joyful, very affectionate, independent, low exercise needs - no walking needed Energy level: low Relations: great with dogs once comfortable with them, good with kids, not good with cats  Hi everyone, my name is Annie Oakley. I am a beautiful and very happy girl, but that hasn't always been true for me. I used to live in the Middle East where at the very tender age of eight months I became pregnant. I was much too young to become a mother and all my puppies died. In addition, my rear leg had been badly damaged, probably from being hit by a car. In the country I came from, dogs are considered vermin and people often deliberately hit us with their cars in attempts to kill us. My wounds became badly infected and I was in terrible pain by the time I was finally rescued. By the time I was taken to a veterinarian, my leg needed to be amputated. Despite this I am very mobile and can easily climb stairs. I can't go on long hikes but normal length walks are perfect for me.  I am a very loving and affectionate girl who has a real love of life. I enjoy the company of other dogs, once I trust them. I currently live happily with several dogs of all sizes. It can take a few visits for me to feel safe with other dogs for me to let my guard down with other dogs. Given this, it could potentially be difficult for a prospective adopter to take the necessary time I require to become familiar with their dog-- so a home without another dog is best for me. I am happy being the only dog in the home as my true love is people. I have the cutest habit of splaying my front legs out wide when I want you to play with me. And if you pet me and stop and I want some more, I will wrap my front legs around yours to "trap" you and keep you with me. Adorable, right?! I am a really easy dog to care for, and to love. I very much enjoy being outside, so a fenced yard is important to me. In fact, I don't even need or want to go on walks. Because of my missing rear leg, I often find walking too strenuous and much prefer hanging out with my person inside the home or outside in the yard. A covered deck for me to hang out on, watching birds and squirrels, is essential for me. While I am a joyful soul, I am not at all hyper or high energy. At home I am very calm and relaxed. Layin on my bed chewing on a marrow bone or a chew stick is one of my favourite pasttimes! There is no way you could be unhappy with me around.  I am spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. My adoption fee is $600 plus applicable taxes* Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you. While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or  Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs. Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website. Vaccinations: Dogs from the Middle East are vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, leptospirosis, adenovirus type 1 and para-influenza. Bordatella is not given, as that has not been a problem in the Middle East. ##951485##
