Story
Winston needs a new home. Winston is a wonderfully trained pure bred, 9 year old Vizsla who came from the famous Bonneterre kennel run by Ray Rowan in Stoney Lake Ontario. I walk him off leash with no issues and he is perfectly obedient to my commands. He is an ideal companion for trail running, Mt Biking and hiking. He will stay close to you and will respond instantly to come, sit, stay, leash, behind me, this way (pointing direction). He is always willing to please and will adapt to any owner and set of commands. Winston has been raised on boats fishing and rafting on rivers. I live in a rental apartment and I am not allowed a full time pet. I would love to share Winston with a new owner and would happily take him 1/2 time or holidays or whatever. Story
Meet Bogart!Bogart is a sweet old man, but you'd never guess his age based on his gusto and lust for life! He's a senior dog who loves all the people he has met on his adventures. Found as a stray, Bogart has been on unknown journeys alone prior to coming into care. Bogart remains as affectionate as ever. He loves snuggling with humans, rubbing against them like a cat, and enjoying his favorite toys and fishy treats. He's potty trained and his previous foster reported that he loves to lay around the house and relax together. Bogart loves company and is looking for someone that has a lot of time to be home with him. He also loves to get outdoors and get his steps in - this is important, because he is working on his fitness journey. He has been on a bit of a diet and wants to ensure his new guardian is just as committed as him to staying healthy and active. Bogart may not prefer the company of younger or smaller dogs, and finds small animals such as cats to be pesky! He would thrive as the only pet in a home where he can enjoy his own walks, hikes, and lots of attention. Bogart is so great with people, he would be suitable to a human family of all ages.Come & meet Bogart and give him the happy ending he's been waiting for. Our viewing hours are 12-3pm, Tues-Sun, or apply online today! Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: Brindle Weight: 39.5 Age: 9yrs 1mths 4wks

Fill out an application to Adopt me at the website for Surfers for Strays.      https://www.surfersforstrays.org/adopt ***Currently located in Guerrero, Mexico*** Hello everyone! My name is Jack (originally Ken from the Barbie Litter ), and I have quite a story to tell you all. I was born to a feral momma dog in Mexico. Surfers for Strays tried to catch and sterilize her but failed until after we were born. I must say, I'm glad they failed before! Our mom did her best, but our accommodations were modest, to say the least. We grew up in a rundown, dirty shack with nails and broken glass on the ground. This wasn't ideal for raising pups, and sadly, some of our siblings didn't make it. Four of us survived thanks to a local woman who found our hiding spot and called Surfers for Strays for help. Until we moved to the shelter, volunteers came all the time, built a pen for us, brought clean water, lots of food for momma, gave us meds, baths, and oh, so much love. We couldn't help but love them back! Life completely changed once we got to the shelter. We made new four-legged friends and lots of two-legged ones too! We were trained, loved, cuddled, and just had a great time. One by one, we got adopted and flew to the US and Canada, including me. Unfortunately, what I thought was my forever home turned out to be only temporary. I started showing signs of hip dysplasia, a diagnosis confirmed by the vet. I was really sad to learn that my new family couldn't go through this hardship with me. I flew back to Mexico to a sweet foster home with lots of other doggies needing special attention! Don't get me wrong, I'm still a total happy-go-lucky pup - I never stop smiling and wagging my tail because I can always look at the bright side of life. Though deep down, I long for a home where I can be assured that forever means forever! Since returning to Mexico, I've received proper pain medication and when I didn't respond to that anymore, they brought me to a vet to get stemcells injected. It was just a few shots, but they made a big deal out of it, because it's such a new promising treatment! I must say, I understand the hype, because I am completely off pain meds now and I am clearly thriving! I go on an hour long walk every morning and evening and secretly I'd love to walk even longer! Please talk to them if you need more info on everything medical-related - I'm not a pro at those things! I'm an absolute master at other things, though, like cuddling, for example. My foster momma says she's never met a cuddlier dog. Even though it's hot as heck here in Mexico, I need. NEED. to touch her when I sleep next to her at night or when she is working. Who cares about the heat when you can cuddle?! I'm really friendly with all humans and other dogs. Meeting new dogs on the leash excites me a lot, and I'm currently working on saying hi in a slow way, as I guess not everyone is as excited as me all the time! The most exciting thing ever is when I see a chicken or a bird. Or a squirrel. Or a cat... You get the drill. I probably shouldn't be off-leash in such moments... who knows where those little critters will lead me! I would love to romp around all day with my foster mates, but my foster momma says that only "calm play" is allowed. She doesn't want my hip to get hurt. That's nice of her, I guess. But oh boy, would I love to play if I could. I wouldn't stop playing chase in the yard and running like crazy. My foster momma says I'm very smart, even though I'm not excessively food-driven. I do take treats, of course, but the treats must be really good. I have a distinguished palette, and my foster momma needs to step up her game! I'm very well-behaved alone in the room or in my crate. I have my basic manners straight, especially regarding food. Of course, I know Sit, Down, Paw, Turn, and Stay. I'm currently learning to walk backward and to place my front legs up on a higher level without jumping on it. Sniffing is one of my favorite things to do, and even though I walk pretty well on the leash, I have a hard time focusing on you for longer than a second (the second it takes to take the treat ;)). I'm also housebroken! I think of myself as a really good boy. Ask my foster momma if you need references. I'm trying to live every day with the utmost joy I can find in my heart! I forget everything that doesn't go so well (pain, abandonment, dog attacks,...) in a heartbeat. Focus on the positive, they say, right? I can proudly say that I've mastered this lifestyle! One thing is still missing for me to be completely happy... A permanent family. Will you be the one? Please reach out to the Surfers for Strays team if you have any questions. I promise, I'm worth it! Lots of love, cuddles, and face licks, Your Jack     If you'd like to Foster, click on the Foster Button and complete the online Foster Application. Story
***Currently located in Guerrero, Mexico*** Hi everyone! My name is Osa, which means bear in Spanish. I am a black lab looking girl and definitely have some bear traits to show off, like silky soft fur, warm eyes and a lot of cup, I mean, pup-energy! I was found on the streets in bad shape and very hungry. On top of the suffering you face when you haven't eaten in days, I also had a bad limp in one of my front legs. Everything was a blur, I cannot remember how that happend, maybe another dog, maybe a car... A kind Mexican woman had mercy on me and brought me to the shelter, where I am still today. For the first time in my life, I experienced what safety means- I had food, water, a warm, dry place to sleep and, the best part, friends! Since then there hasn't been a single day when I went hungry again. My two besties and I play a lot together! We romp around like crazy and may sometimes run over one of the smaller puppers in our excitement (oopsies!). As I grow up, I will try to be more careful (or will I? ). To run and chase my friends is a lot of work and I recently noticed that I have zero pain in my leg- it has healed completely! Thankfully, because I wouldn't wanna miss all the fun!  I also like to get all the attention from the humans. Soft pets and chin rubs are the best! When the volunteers sit down to pet us, I will hang around for quite some time before I get myself a toy to play with. I am very friendly, but sometimes I don't quite know the social etiquette and I would love to have my personal human that can teach me how to properly dog and to be fully compatiable with their family! Learning new things is fun!  Another dog in the home would be cool, but it is not a must for me if I can get a lot of exercise and if we can go on play dates or to the dog park. I love toys, especially ropes and .. actually everything   I cannot wait to meet my future family and go on all the adventures with them! Lots of facelicks, your Osa   If you are interested in FOSTERING, click on the Foster Button and fill out the online Foster Application If you are interested in ADOPTING, click on the Adopt Button and fill out the online Adoption Application Check out our VOLUNTEER Opportunities here https://www.surfersforstrays.org/get-involved  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us. Story
***Currently located in Guerrero, Mexico*** Hi! I’m Brownie! And if you’re looking for a sweet spot in your life, I’m your girl. Like a lot of the dogs in Mexico, I was roaming the streets for the first seven months of my life, looking for food and love and somewhere warm to call my own. I was lucky enough to not have had any puppies of my own during that time, because taking care of myself was more than enough! When I was picked up by the rescue, there was some hope that I was finally on my way to brighter days.My friends here say that I’m a sweet girl with lots and lots of energy. When I play, I play HARD, and all I want to do is play! Just making up for lost time, I guess. I would do so well in a house with other dogs or lots of playdates and fun activities! Despite my past, I am already warm and affectionate with my human friends. I haven’t met very many, though, so I can be a bit timid at times. Anyone looking to bring me into their home should be prepared to spend one on one time with me not only so that I can learn how to be a girl of high society, but also so I can build the trust I so desperately want with a person. I am learning quickly how to be a pet, but it’s helpful for my friends to remember that I wasn’t a pet for the first formative months of my life.I hope that you’ll consider welcoming me into your family. At the end of a long day, I promise that a Brownie is all you need!Love and facelicks, your Brownie   If you are interested in FOSTERING, click on the Foster Button and fill out the online Foster Application If you are interested in ADOPTING, click on the Adopt Button and fill out the online Adoption Application Check out our VOLUNTEER Opportunities here https://www.surfersforstrays.org/get-involved  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.
