Volunteer notes on Nona:Do you need a daily dose of sunshine to warm your heart? Beat the heat and adopt Nona instead! This 2-year-old ebony princess is sweet, trusting and loving to her very core. When we are together her main goal is to get as close as possible and solicit my affection. Her positive energy is contagious, like a rush of endorphins that rejuvenate and revitalize my spirit. All is ok in my world once Nona offers her kisses. I have no doubt this mama gave her multiple litters of pups her absolute best. I could sit and revel in Nona’s company forever, but it wouldn’t be fair of me not to share her with the world.

Sweet Grace is a gentle senior lady looking for a warm place to call home. This beautiful girl is incredibly loving and will melt your heart when you meet her. According to her foster, Grace is a well behaved, gentle, easy going sweetheart, with low-medium activity needs. She likes to be near her people, but not on top of them. She is incredibly smart, food motivated, and likes being kept on a regular schedule. In her foster home, she was left uncrated and was a perfect lady - she did just fine alone and had no accidents! Grace loves walks, sunbathing, being petted, short hikes, tennis balls, and rocks. That`s right, rocks! She likes digging up rocks and playing hide and seek with them! She is so happy when she finds her rock! She LOVES rocks! In her foster home, she met several other dogs while on walks and did well with them, and she was very sweet and gentle with a child in the home. Grace is a great girl and will make a wonderful addition to almost any family!

Story
Meet Butch, a 5 year old boy who is has been waiting patiently to get adopted. The only thing he requires is some balls and toys. Butch LOVES balls and toys, so make sure you have an ample supply! Butch is a really nice, friendly boy who likes people (children included!), but would probably do best as the only four-legged member of the family. He was surrendered due to no fault of his own, and he`s ready for a second chance for a loving forever home. If you`d like to adopt this handsome boy, just come to BAS and ask to meet Butch! I have been reported to:- Enjoy meeting new people- Loving and Affectionate- Does well with car rides- Not recommended for homes with cats or small animalsDog Day Out, 5/20/24:We took Butch to our house and on walks all around the neighborhood. Took him on many walks and feeding him his treats and introducing him to new people. Dog Day Out, 4/20/24:We picked up Butch and went to Elon University. He did very well in the car and was excited to put his head out the window. We took him on a walk around campus, and he did very well by not pulling on the leash or taking off after other animals. He loved getting attention from so many people. He would constantly want to roll over for some belly rubs! Butch is such a cutie and deserves a good home. Dog Day Out, 3/15/24:Went around Elon, took a walk, met lots of new people, and sniffed around everywhere! Butch enjoys meeting new people, and he`s loving and affectionate. He pulls on leash a bit, but does well with riding in the car. He`s very playful! He would benefit from a running activity! Dog Day Out, 1/30/24:We went for a long walk off campus stopping to say hi to many folks! Then, we sat in my apartment while he took a nice nap and got lots of pets! He lovessss belly rubs and a chew toy! All he needs is a chance and a loving home! He enjoyed meeting new people, walks well on leash, and did well with the car ride.Dog Day Out, 1/18/24:First, we hopped in the car and went hiking around Great Bend Park. Butch was great on the leash and didn`t pull too hard or stop to sniff everything. He has to go everywhere with some type of toy in his mouth, and he did the entire hike with a stuffed cactus in his mouth which was the cutest thing ever. We even hiked through some streams and he was fine with the water. Then, we took him to my apartment and hung out for a little while. He was super snuggly and loved to play wi

Story
Foster notes, 12/4/23:Pie is an extremely affectionate dog that has lived most of his life in the shelter. He would benefit from some training as he can be hyper but this is at no fault of his own. Having another playmate helps with his energy. Because Pie hasn’t had a lot of interactions with other dogs and been able to be a pup himself, all he wants to do is play while the other dogs are wanting to rest. With positive redirection Pie will calm down and take a rest himself. Pie gets really excited and will try to grab blankets, toys, whatever may be around so I would recommend lots of variety of toys for him. He absolutely loves playing fetch and could play this for hours if you allowed it. Pie is such an amazing dog that has been looked over time and time again. All he wants is love, affection and attention. He will make an amazing partner in any adventure his family goes on. He loves to ride in cars and when we take him out, he goes to the car wanting to get in- it’s the absolute cutest thing. Pie loves to get belly rubs and will reward you with all of the kisses in the world. He is such a good boy that is so deserving of a forever home. Pie is house and crate trained, and lets you know when he needs to go potty. He is walked on a leash to go outside and is starting to do much better on leash. There are times when Pie will take charge and wants to walk himself by taking the leash in his mouth and starts walking in the direction he would like to go. I crate Pie when I leave the house and he’s done absolutely amazing. Pie knows sit and that is about it. We are working on other commands. I would recommend not playing tug of war with him and just tell him to “drop” the toy and he will so you can then throw it for him to go and fetch. This is a positive way to play with Pie that does not get him too overstimulated and excited. Pie does amazing with my 2 year old and my other dogs. I would recommend that Pie go to a home with at least one other dog so he can have someone to play with as playing as become his absolute favorite thing to do. I also have cats in the house and Pie is not bothered at all with them and does not engage with them at all, he is just uninterested in cats. Like every dog, Pie just needs a family willing to show him patience and love and who will work with him. Sound like you? These pictures are like a study in contrasts! Big, tough guy with a cute, soft lamb toy. Drewby LOVES his lamb! :) This big 2 year old boy (83 lbs.) was surrendered due to no fault of his own. He his housetrained, good with kids, but has never had much experience with other animals. We do know a home with cats is not a good idea. Drewby is friendly and affectionate, knows sit, and slept with his owner. We`d love to see this sweet boy find a new home where he will be much loved and included in everything. Come meet this hunk of love!

Story
Handsome Bambino came to us as a stray in mid 2023. He`s a happy boy (especially when a pool is involved!). Volunteer notes, 6/17/24:I love Bambino so, so much and have written about him several times, because he is always showing me something new. He is a multifaceted dog! Today we combined his two favorite things--tennis balls and a wading pool--and I am pretty sure he was the happiest dog on earth. You can never have too many tennis balls in your hands at once, and if you throw them into the water in rapid succession it will bring the deepest joy to this smart and energetic doggie as he fetches and drops them as fast as he can. He can catch a tennis ball in his mouth with perfect precision. He could probably outperform most of the Dock Dogs with a little encouragement!Volunteer notes, 5/2/24:I have played with Bambino several times now and my conclusion is that his behavior is very consistent, and he warms up steadily over time. Each time I have played with him we`ve understood each other better. He is a good communicator, and if you listen to his cues, and let him chew on his toys when he wants to, he is the friendliest and gentlest boy you can imagine. The only time he ever growled at me was when I tried to take something from him before he was ready. He used his words; what more can you ask for?! He is smart and I believe he could learn to share his toys more readily with some consistent, positive, patient training. He has the sweetest floppy ears and cutest little cow spots on his back, along with a lovely speckled coat. He will be a great active companion for the lucky person who respects his things and earns his trust! I see the potential for great loyalty from this dog!Dog Day Out notes, 4/19/24:Bambino went on a hike at the beautiful Cates Farm Park in Mebane. He`s one smart and friendly boy. He pulled on the leash at first and would get excitable in the car, around other dogs, and when other people passed. But he is easily corrected with some instruction on the leash. He`s very treat-motivated and will sit for treats. After a hike, we went to the Mebane Dog Park, where he played with his tennis ball and hung out in the shade. Bambino is very loving and affectionate.Volunteer notes, 4/18/24:We had a great time in the play yard with Bambino today! He loved to chase balls and would bring them back and drop them politely for us to throw. When he sat down to chew on a ball, he did not want pets, but ot
