Story
Meet our precious little hero Butterscotch. She is a Riverside Shelter survivor who was in danger for euthanasia due to having a seizure disorder. Butterscotch is a 1 year old Papillion/Corgi Mix and weighs about 12 lbs She’s a sweet girl with a beautiful smile and a beautiful spirit. She’s resilient and strong. We had her visit our vet for a thorough exam and testing. Good news is, they say there is a great possibility that she will grow out of her seizures (no guarantees). For the meantime, she has started treatment and they have been effective. She loves toys, she a social butterfly, she’s dog and cat friendly, she loves her walks, and enjoys time at the beach. She’s a happy girl with a beautiful spirit. She will bring her new family lots of love and joy. We are excited to help her find her new forever family. Adoption Interest applications are on our website www.jointhescars.org under “forms.”

Story
For those who are up to a challenge, we are looking for an experienced foster/adopter who can help Hopper. Hopper is a special little guy who needs someone who can work with him and his issues. He has triggers that have lead to bites. He needs help working with someone who knows how to retrain his brain. Hopper is a quirky little guy who does love people, especially when they understand his quirks. Hopper is trustful of the person who cares for him and loves to cuddle and get belly rubs. He needs a person to understand his boundaries and that he gives love on his terms. He loves to run at full speed into rooms to greet everyone there. He is very food motivated. He does not like to be picked up and has a dislike of harnesses. He's getting better with allowing harnesses but needs more work on being desensitized to them. He needs someone who understands and accepts that he does not like being picked up, which is not really necessary. He's learned to use stairs to get up on the couch to sit next to you. At night, he's good in a kennel or on a dog bed. Hopper is good with other dogs who are his size. He's not too welcoming of bigger dogs but tolerates them to a point. He can be food protective so no trying to take away his bowl once he's eating (who would do that anyway?). Hopper is neutered, vaccinated and house trained (might mark in the beginning like most male dogs do). Please contact us if you can help Hopper. Our email is heartandhomerescueorg@gmail.com or call us at 951-708-0626.

Story
Meet Maple! This pretty girl originally came to our rescue 2 years ago when we rescued her from a Riverside Shelter. She is now 6 years old. It was immediately apparent that Maple did not come from ideal circumstances. She was extremely fearful of humans. When approached she would run, yelp, and scream to try to avoid being touched. She had stress patching and wouldn’t eat dog food out of a bowl, however, she knows exactly what people's food is. She was placed with a great foster that worked with her on trusting people. Slowly she began to gain confidence and progress into such a good girl. Once she had some progression and was easier to work with Maple was adopted. We were so happy that she had a home that could accommodate her. Through the years of regular pictures and videos, she seemed to be living her best life with her family. She was going on trails with horses, camping, swimming in her pool, and keeping all the kids and dogs quiet and in line at her house. She grew to be a very independent dog but seems to dislike loud noises, people arguing or anyone touching her without her permission. Unfortunately, due to extremely unforeseen circumstances, Maple ended up at the Riverside Shelter at the end of October 2023. We pulled her as soon as the shelter would allow us to but it was still over a week and Maple became stressed and scared again. Maple was taken in by a new foster home to help her decompress and gain trust again. Although the shelter was hard on her she was definitely showing that she had progressed greatly throughout the years. Her current foster has allowed her to become independent, trusting, and even playful and loving at times with her person. She is still not a fan of being touched without permission but will let you know when she wants pets. Being picked up is still hard but with a blanket and some patience, it can be done. She loves to sit right next to you once you have settled on the couch or in bed. She can co-exist with other dogs and probably cats. We recommend a home with children 12 or older. Due to past trauma, she does not like leashes, collars, and harnesses, and therefore doesn’t go on walks. She enjoys her space, her treats, her blankets, and her person. Once she finds her person she will love and protect them for the rest of her life. She is currently using potty pads inside but will go outside, is crate trained and enjoys the sunlight and following her person around. If you would like to learn more about Maple to foster or adopt please email us at heartandhomerescueorg@gmail.com.
