Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Abel is affectionate, playful, smart, and obedient. He's also house-trained and a loyal companion who loves to cuddle, especially with his head on your lap, and is always ready for belly rubs. Abel enjoys a solid 10 hours of sleep, as long as you’re right there sleeping, too. He settles beautifully after a 5-10 minute romp with a ball or frisbee, a game of hide-and-seek, or a nice walk filled with plenty of sniffing and marking. And while he might pull a bit (okay, maybe a lot) on his walks, he’s well-mannered in the home. He even knows a few tricks and performs with or without treats! You can trust Abel to be calm and content when left out of his kennel for several hours—his longest solo time was seven hours, and he simply rested and kept watch for any "dangerous" Amazon trucks. Abel would love a home without kids or other animals, where he can relax without being disturbed during meals. He’s independent about his space and prefers not to be poked or prodded. When grandkids or visitors are over, he happily hangs out in the bedroom if needed. Truly, Abel is an easygoing guy who’s ready to bring so much love to the right home. He has a few quirks, but don’t we all?   Abel does take an oral medication twice a day to help prevent seizures.    Abel is from an owner surrender. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Halo, a pup with a heart full of love and a playful spirit! This sweet boy is crate trained, rides well in the car and enjoys playing with other dogs. Halo is a typical goofy puppy, who loves to cuddle, often falling asleep in the silliest positions. Although he can be a bit shy at first, he warms up and shows his playful side. Small children do make him nervous, so a home with no littles would be best. Halo would thrive in a quiet home, especially with another playful dog to keep him company. Born in rescue with his brother Cosmo, he may look like a Labrador Retriever, but his Cocker Spaniel roots shine through in his personality. Check out the image of his DNA test if you don't believe it! If you’re looking for a loving, goofy companion, Halo might just be the perfect fit for you!   Halo is from Texas.  If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Stone, a six-year-old German Shepherd mix with a heart as big as his paws and a personality that’ll steal yours in an instant. This sleek, dashing gentleman is on the lookout for a forever home—a place where loyalty, companionship, and love are the foundation of his next great adventure. Originally from Texas, Stone made the journey to Minnesota in 2021 in search of a better life filled with head scratches and snuggles. He found his first home in 2022, but life threw some curveballs, and now he’s back on the market, ready to meet his perfect match. Stone is a total people-pleaser who thrives on being your sidekick. Whether you’re out exploring or just enjoying a quiet day at home, he’s happiest by your side. With a nose like a detective and a sharp mind to match, he finds joy in sniffing out all the interesting smells life has to offer. Bonus: he’s a self-proclaimed guardian of yards, ensuring no critter overstays its welcome. When it comes to other dogs, Stone gets along best with laid-back, low-key companions. Cats, on the other hand, spark his inner chase instinct, so a feline-free home would be best. Stone is also a foodie at heart, which makes him eager to learn and incredibly treat-motivated—he’ll work hard to impress you if there’s a snack involved! Stone loves to stay close to his people but also respects your space (your shoes and belongings will remain untouched under his watchful eye). He’s a snuggle pro, a certified “Lap Dog” enthusiast, and an excellent nap buddy during downtime. While he’s been crate-trained in the past, he much prefers a cozy spot nearby with the door wide open. Stone does his best to adapt to life’s changes, and he takes medication to help with his anxiety, especially during transitions. But with a loving, stable home and someone to remind him he’s safe, his confidence will continue to grow. If you’re looking for a loyal, fun-loving, and endlessly devoted companion, Stone might just be your perfect match. He’s ready to be your new best friend—are you ready to be his? Stone is from Texas. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi there, I’m Jackie—though my first family called me Junie, so I’ll happily answer to either! I’m a sweet, potty-trained girl with a heart full of love to share. While the world still feels a little big and scary to me, I’m learning to trust it one kind person at a time. I can be shy, especially around men, but with gentle encouragement and patience, my playful and loving side starts to shine. I’m a doggy social butterfly and feel most confident with a friendly, older pup sibling to guide me. Bonus points if they’re calm and can show me the ropes! I also do great with cats—yes, I’m that well-mannered—and I’m kennel-trained, sleeping peacefully through the night like a pro. I already know some basic cues like “sit” and “stay,” and I love going on walks, especially when I have a routine to rely on. Because I’m still working on building my confidence, a quieter home with older kids who understand my need for space would be perfect for me. My ideal family is one that can offer love, patience, and a nurturing environment where I can continue to blossom. I was adopted as a puppy and loved dearly, but I recently came back to Ruff Start Rescue through no fault of my own. My previous adopters took great care of me, but I need someone who can give me just a bit more time to feel secure and truly thrive. If you have a kind heart, a cozy spot on your couch, and  a pup friend to help me find my footing, I’d love to meet you! Let’s take the first step toward a lifetime of love and companionship. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Pearlescent Moon, a playful and resilient girl with a heart of gold! This silly sweetheart loves nothing more than a good game of fetch, bringing her favorite toys back for another round of fun. When you scratch her back, she'll express her joy with happy bunny hops! Pearlescent Moon has the most captivating eyes, though a bit cloudy, they still hold a soulful charm. While she may have a bit of a unique voice (her foster dad jokes she was a dinosaur in a past life!), she's not a barker, she just has a lot to say! Pearlescent Moon's past may have been challenging, including neglect that led to health issues. However, thanks to the incredible team at Ruff Start Rescue, she's thriving! Her diabetes and thyroid are now well-managed with just two medications twice a day. Despite some minor eye issues from her past, Pearlescent Moon's resilience shines through. She's a loving and playful companion who's ready to shower her new family with affection. Could you be the perfect match for this amazing girl? Pearlescent Moon is from an owner surrender.
