Story
Hey there, I am Gordy aka Gordon (when I’m not listening) and Gordito Crunch (when my foster mama is playing with me)! I am an almost 3 year old Great Dane/Great Pyrenees mix. That just means I’m extra great of course!  I have the Great Dane height and body but a Great Pyrenees head with the Pyrenees shedding.  I was originally surrendered as a puppy due to having special back legs. I was adopted to a wonderful family but recently was surrendered back to rescue because I can be a strong personality. I get that from the Great Pyrenees side.  I love hard and love attention from my humans but don’t enjoy people I don’t know initially. I take my job of guarding the home seriously and need my humans to communicate and prove to me that they can control and protect the house so I don’t have to worry about it.  I recently spent a month with a really nice lady who taught me really fun things like walking well on leash, a strong place command, heel, come and all of the other skills I need to be a well mannered boy.  I really love to play with toys and other dog friends as long as they are not dominant. I’m a total goofball but have shown resource guarding over food with other dogs. I prefer to eat my food and bones in my kennel.  I really love my kennel. I sleep there at night and when my foster parents are gone. I will counter surf if left unattended.  Remember how I was surrendered as a puppy due to having special legs? Well, I still have special back legs. I was born with slightly twisted femurs so I walk a bit differently and have arthritis in my back knees. I love to run and play but can be sore after playing all day long so I occasionally take gabapentin to help. I also require daily joint supplements to help my bones stay healthy.  I currently take anxiety meds daily. I have been on these since I was young to help with my desire to protect the home. These meds cost about $90 for a 90 day supply so any future adopter needs to be able to continue to pay for regular medications.  Foster Mama Here: Gordy is the bestest boy. We fostered him when he was a puppy as well. We do not let him greet visitors at our house and require him to stay on his bed in a “place” while visitors are here. He is also happy to stay in his kennel. He does like to meet people slowly and at a good pace. Once he knows and trusts you he will forever welcome you as a family member of his.  Gordy has so much potential and loves so hard. But he will require owners who can set strict boundaries in the home and hold him accountable. His breed and genetics make him want to protect his home and people but if you a set boundaries he is such a great listener.  We walk him on a prong collar and he is eCollar trained. His adopters will need to commit to continued use of these training tools and also meeting with his board and train trainer to learn about everything he knows.  Gordy loves the snow and playing outside. His favorite is his doggy pool in the summer. We have 4 other dogs in our home and he plays with all of them.  Gordy lived with kids in his first home. He was very protective over them so we do not recommend he go to a home with children under the age of 12. He has been thriving with a farm life and would do best outside of the city. ##954057##

Story
Kota here! That’s right, I finally put on enough weight to begin the hunt for my forever home!  I am a 2.5 year old male Great Dane. I have a fawn coat with Merle splotches on my ears.  Though I can coexist with other dogs I am looking for a home where I am the only animal and a family who understands that I want their love all for myself! Because of the situation I came from I still think I need to fight to survive when food is present (human and dog food). My foster Mama says they understand why I feel like that and doesn’t want me to ever have to worry about that long term. I will bark while walking when I see other dogs so I am working on my manners.  I LOVE human attention and snuggles. I am a smart boy who is kennel trained, potty trained and know sit, down, stay, off and out. I love to play fetch in the yard. I LOVE vet visits - again give me all the human attention always! Foster Mama has been working with me on patience for my meals. I know I need to sit and wait until she tells me “ok” for my food. Because of my resource guarding with other dogs a fenced in yard would be ideal - that way I can run and play without a care in the world! I am currently in foster care in the Twin Cities.  ##2208464##

Story
I purchased her from a guy that lives here in Minnesota. She is such a big baby, my daughter treats her like a poodle, she is really sensitive and scary around other animals, she can be a cry baby sometimes, but can be really protective with the correct love and training. She is small and I believe with the right owners and nutrients she will grow healthier overtime. She is still able to have puppies and she hasnt mated with anyone yet unless the new owners decide to get her fixed. Im really sad I have to give her away because we’re moving and I just want to find her a loving family who will love her and treat her like family and take the time to get to know her and not treat her like a prisoner because she has been through a lot and she will open up and trust you in due time. She will be your best friend, she really deserves the best.

Story
Frizzle and his brother Bantam ended up on a Good Samaritan’s door step one dark and freezing night. It is unclear if the puppies wandered there or were put there. Since it is a two business, no stoplight, 4 street town, it didn’t take the homeowner long to discover who the puppies belonged to. The owner didn’t want them, but also didn’t want anything bad to happen to them. The Good Samaritan agreed to keep them overnight and went to work getting them to rescue. A PUP volunteer drove 50 miles the next day to get them and later transported them to Saint Paul to get forever homes. Frizzle was born Halloween night. We don’t have a picture of mommy but the owner thought she might be a doxie X. Frizzle weighed 4.4# at his vet appointment December 18. We believe he will be either on the upper end of small breed or lower end of mid-size when full grown. He has very short legs and is well built and solid even though he is tiny. The vet commented on how well muscled both he and his brother are. We had DNA testing done on Frizzle and the results are in. In declining order of % of breed, here you go: Australian Cattle Dog, Shiba Inu, Chihuahua, Pekingese, Australian Shepherd, Shetland Sheepdog, Rottweiler, German Shepherd, Border Collie, Miniature American Shepherd, Dachshund, Pug, Pomeranian and Chow Chow. Frizzle is well socialized, happy and health, and he is a player! While his brother Bantam has a tail that curls up over his back, Frizzle has a stubby tail. It was not docked, he was just born with a short tail. Check out the Youtube videos to see these pups in action. He is consistently using newspapers in the house and has not started going outside yet to potty. He is still in the shoelace-chasing stage of life. The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog. Frizzle has been vet checked, vaccinated and de-wormed. He will need one or two additional puppy vaccinations plus rabies at the adopter’s expense. We do place puppies outside the metro area if a firm plan for the neuter is in place; we do not ship. We require that he be altered at 6 months. His required alter surgery is covered by the adoption fee if it is done at 6 months at the PUP clinic. If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. If you elect to contact us via e-mail it may take several weeks for us to get back to you. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested. Story
Meet Candy, as sweet as her namesake. She's a 2 year-old, 11-lb bundle of cuteness ready to steal your heart. Candy is a mixed breed pup estimated to be a terrier/sheltie mix.Candy loves hanging out with her people and getting pets and love as much as she gives it. She is very shy and anxious in new situations and would do best in a home that can give her slow introductions to new people and pets. Candy lives with senior dogs in her foster home. She would most likely flourish with a patient and affectionate small-breed dog to help build her confidence. Otherwise, she'd do well as a solo dog if given the attention she needs to come out of her shell. She loves to get her outdoor time, running circles around a fenced yard.Candy came to rescue with little training, but has made significant progress since being in her foster home. She is potty trained and does okay on a leash. She’s not very food motivated so lots of praise and positive reinforcement is key in teaching her new things!Candy has developed separation anxiety which is a work in progress. She will do best in a home where she can see her people throughout the day. Her forever home will be one that can accommodate these needs while continuing to improve on these behaviors. When home alone, Candy is known to bark and whine. For this reason, it’s not ideal that Candy lives in a home with shared walls. Will you be the best home for Candy? If you'd like more information about Candy to see if you might be her perfect match, fill out an application through the following link to learn more!https://pethavenmn.org/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/The adoption fee is $450. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional's recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal's history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.
