Story

Penny's a 5yo 80lb lab/hound mix. She is an attention hoarder with a silly personality. She loves walks, treats, jumping in snow, playing with her fav duckie toy, and of course, car rides. She'll lay in bed with you, if you allow it, though she understands when she isn't allowed. She also likes to lick furniture, she even has her own "lick" chair (it's yours if you want it)! She's been around cats almost her entire life (came to us at 2.5mo), and has also been around other dogs (pomeranians and an American Eskimo). We have pet rats, which she has always ignored. She's not a fan of getting wet, and rainy days are the worst (she'll go potty in it, but will wait as long as possible), and she is allergic to ragweed, which gives her a belly rash. She's not a fan of being left home alone for long periods. She wants a lot of attention, but we have a special needs child who needs it more. She deserves to be with someone who can give her the attention that she wants, needs and deserves.

Meet Andy, he is an 8 year old male who has anal fistula disease, however he is doing fine with the medications he is currently on. Andy is a sweet guy who needs a special place to live out the rest of his life. He enjoys the company of his humans and even an older female dog around his same age. This guy is crate trained, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and neutered. Gunner is an adorable sable male GSD. Gunner lost his mom suddenly and needed a place to go, so we took him in. Gunner had a knee surgery previously, so he does walk a little funny, but that does not stop him from playing with his jolly balls! Gunner should be the only dog in the home at this point in his life. He is crate trained, neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. Experience needed for Gunnar, he’s a great dog, but needs a strong handler. Story

Bodie is a one year old German Shepherd, we are not sure if he is purebred or mixed with Malinois, he is tall and thin and OH so handsome. Bodie has been training with Hansen Kennels for about a month now and is doing fantastic. He is crate trained, house trained, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. He will be neutered soon. Bodie is so loving and affectionate, he just wants to give love and get love. He does well with other dogs, once properly introduced. If you are looking for a dog to enhance your life, Bodie is the one for you! Jazz is a 10 week old (best guess) GSD puppy. She is spunky, confident and sweet all at the same time. She has been in a foster home with large dogs and has done terrific with them. Jazz has had 2 puppy shots, she’s microchipped, been dewormed, working on crate training and house training. She will come with a spay contract since she is too young to be spayed right now. If your’e looking for a cute, confident female, Jazz is the puppy for you! Story

Meet Allie, a 2019 edition of a party colored Australian Shepherd x Border Collie weighing in at 42 lbs. This beautiful gal came to NWMNAR because her previous owner had to leave abroad to help take care of in-laws and could not take Allie with. Allie loves going to obedience class and showing how smart she is. Allie needs an Aussie savy owner her can outsmart her. She is best with dogs the same size, she has prey drive towards rabbits and may not do well with cats or other smaller animals possibly including smaller tiny dogs. Allie takes time with strangers and will often back away barking. Allie has been scared of men with hats in the past. She can be a bit barky towards other dogs on walks, but has been learning to play nice. She can be dominant towards other dogs. Allie doesn't like plastic crates, but does just fine in wire crate. Allie must be crated in a vehicle otherwise she will run around in a vehicle pushing window switches until she gets out. Allie is best to go for a walk before a car ride to ensure she doesn't nervous defecate in the vehicle. Allie hies and sleeps under the bed to keep the monsters away. Allie does like to vocalize herself if she sees other dogs outside when she is peering out the windows. She has just started to play with toys and gets groomed twice a week with a brush. Because NWMNAR is not a public shelter, meet and greets do not take place until an application has been approved and a home visit has been completed in person or virtually. Meet and greets will take place in a public setting along with the adoption if compatible. Dogs can be met in Ada, MN or in our alternate office location in Maple Grove, Mn.
