In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you. Meet Pandie who is a 5 year old fun loving Shih/Poo, who for the most part does everything she can to please you. She is a fast learner but is sometimes fearful. She is house trained, but until she feels comfortable in a new home and trusts the people she is with, she may have a few accidents in the house. She is not a real confident dog and definitely needs a family who is experienced with insecure dogs and how to help them overcome their fears of new people, new situations and experiences so that she, and her family, can have a happy life. Now that she knows and loves her foster mom, she enjoys having her belly rubbed, does zoomies in the backyard, and chows her food down like it’s her last meal. Pandie is currently sleeping at night in a dog bed in the bedroom of her foster mom and does well with that. These are the requirements for Pandie’s new family: 1. A home that has a fenced back yard so that she can run freely, while being supervised. 2. Someone who will be home much of the day. 3. A family who has had prior experience with a fearful dog and will help her develop confidence. They must understand that this which will take time, consistency, and a general avoidance of activity which will create stressors for her. 4. Because Pandie is a bit fearful, she should be adopted by an adults only family where there is little activity with strangers coming in and out of the home. Children over the age of ten will be considered if they have had experience with a small dog and know to gently interact with a fearful dog. 5. Live within a 25 mile radius of Edina, MN. Pandie is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative care. Her adoption fee is $320.00 plus $27.28 in sales tax for a total of $347.28. To meet Pandie, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southdale PetCo in Bloomington, MN.

Loki is a mellow one year old boy who lives up to his name, as he is mischievous and very curious. Loki weighs about 10 pounds and is mainly white with light tan ears and light spots on his back. He came into rescued after being neglected quite a bit and it was necessary to shave him down to remove the mats in his hair. But when his hair grows out, it will be beautiful and he’s going to be so handsome. He is very loving and wants to snuggle, but is initially awkward about being picked up, and sticks his front legs out to the side. But he enjoys being held and presses his face against yours or into your neck. He likes his Shih Tzu foster sister, and often snuggles up with her and sometimes grooms her. Loki is very vocal, but not a barker. He’s trying to communicate, and he has different kinds of whines and his foster parents are just starting to understand what he’s trying to say. He hasn’t played much with toys, but may not have had them in his previous life. But he’s always ready to play and interact with you. Loki loves to be outside for walks and be outdoors with you. He enjoys meeting new people, but is still learning how to interact with new dogs. So his adopters will need to continue working on his walking manners. He also does not like getting wet and bath time is a challenge. Loki would do well as an only dog or with other small dogs and in a family where there is someone home most of the time or be able to take him with them. He may be a little anxious when his people aren’t around and would do best in a house where he would not be left alone for long or extended periods. He really wants to please and will be easy to train. Loki is working on his house training, and his new family must be patient and continue to take him out on a frequent, regular schedule. Loki is a very sweet boy who wants a perfect home and family. In order to ensure that, here are the requirements for his new family: 1. An active family that take him on long daily walks and make him a part of their life. 2. Because Loki is only one year old and Shih Tzus can easily live 16+ years, we will only consider age appropriate individuals who will be able to care for him for the rest of his life. 3. His family must continue to work on his house training and leash walking. Because Loki loves being outdoors, a fenced yard would be wonderful, but is not a deal breaker. 4. Loki would do well in a home with another small dog who will help him learn by being a role model and friend. However, he would also be okay as an only dog. 5. A family that works from home or is home most of the day would be ideal for Loki. 6. A family with children over the age of ten will be considered if they have experience with small dogs and know how to gently interact with them. 7. Loki will want to sleep in bed with his new family as he loves to cuddle and be close to his humans. 8. Loki’s new family should live within the 30 miles of Shoreview, MN and commit to attending the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. We understand there are quite a few requirements for Loki’s new family. But if you meet the requirements, you will have abundant joy with this cute, funny, quirky boy. Loki will be neutered on July 25th. Adoption applications are being accepted and reviewed now, so that he can go to his new family shortly after his neuter. He is current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $420.00 plus $35.81 sales tax for a total of $455.81. To meet Loki, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at Petco Southtown in Bloomington.

Story
Every minute matters when it comes to rescuing a Shih Tzu.  We may get a short notice that someone needs to surrender their dog or a puppy mill dog needs a temporary home. We can’t help if we don’t have families willing to foster, and we are always in need of more foster homes! If you live in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area and want to help save lives, please complete either our online Foster Sign-Up or download a word version here: http://www.northstarshihtzurescue.org/foster/ (please note: neither dog pictured are available to foster or adopt, both are in their forever homes) NorthStar Shih Tzu Rescue exists to benefit both Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blend dogs and the people of our community. We operate as a no-kill rescue that provides rescue and adoption services, and meaningful outreach programs in order to advance the welfare of these companion animals, to serve and educate our community, and to make a positive, loving impact on the lives of both. NorthStar, located in Excelsior, MN, actively works to rescue Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blend dogs from dangerous environments and shelters with the ultimate goal of placing them in loving, permanent, adoptive homes. We rescue unwanted, abandoned, and abused dogs. We have them vaccinated, micro-chipped, spayed or neutered, provide other medical care, and rehabilitate them in carefully selected foster homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on the benefits of adopting an animal in need as well as responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, good nutrition, and positive behavior training. We strive to increase public awareness about companion animal overpopulation, commercial breeders, and to offer solutions to end the killing of adoptable animals. We work in alliance with local animal shelters, pounds, other rescue groups, and humane society organizations to ensure these animals are not forgotten. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 4, 2024, 12:08 am

Story
Meet Champ, a striking 75-pound blend of Doberman Pinscher and Staffordshire Terrier, with a heart as big as his physique. This charming gentleman is on the lookout for a special lady to call his own. Champ takes his fitness seriously and loves to stay active. His long legs make him a fantastic runner, especially when he's bounding through winter snow on exhilarating trail runs. He's even a pro at solo fetch, enthusiastically tossing a toy and retrieving it with zest. Champ's game for a flirtatious tug of war, making him an excellent muscle-building partner. After a good workout, Champ indulges in some self-care by tending to his dental hygiene with chew toys by the fireside or a well-deserved Kong filled with peanut butter and a tasty milkbone. He may take a bit of time to warm up to new people, but once he's comfortable, his affection knows no bounds. Champ absolutely adores bedtime snuggles, relishing the role of the big spoon to keep you warm on those chilly nights. Champ would thrive in a home without shared walls, as he takes his job as your protector seriously and will alert you to any passerby with his enthusiastic barks. While he's great with other dogs, Champ isn't a fan of cats or small creatures. Due to his exuberance, he's best suited for a household with older children, preferably in middle school or above. When it comes to adults, Champ is looking for a home where he can be the center of attention among adult women. He's had some tough experiences in the past, likely with male figures, and prefers to avoid competition for affection. This wonderful boy would also benefit from a family with prior experience with bully breeds and confident, strong leadership. Champ isn't just brawn and good looks; he's also quite the smarty. He's already mastered commands like "sit," "shake," and "drop" during his time in foster care, and he's eager to learn more from his special lady. With impeccable manners, he's a joy to take out on the town, strutting his stuff with the leash in your capable hands. Champ is a sweet and playful companion seeking the perfect lady to be his exercise partner, snuggle buddy, and evening date. If you think you might be the one he's been waiting for, please send an application to his foster, and they'll arrange that first unforgettable date. ##1329389##

Story
Tinsley is a beautiful pup with freckles and beautiful black eyeliner around her eyes. She currently lives with cats and dogs. Tinsley can be slow to warm up to new people and would benefit from a confident dog in the home to help her build confidence. Once she knows you, Tinsley will snuggle on the couch with you, seeking belly rubs like she’s been there her whole life! Tinsley loves the lake, and has slowly learned to retrieve a ball in it. She get so excited when she actually gets it runs for shore like she won the lottery! She thinks kids are cool, but older kids would be safer because Tinsley will slip right out the door if you are not careful; she really loves adventures and thinks she can leave to go exploring whenever she wants. A family that takes her on intentional adventures may be a great fit and help reduce some of her wanderlust… A little back story on how she came to rescue- She and her female canine companion were surrended to a sheter in TX. We don;t know the why, but Tinsly was pregant. She waited long enough in the shelter waiting for a home, that she gave birth to her two male pups. She came to MN a week later with them and raised them in a foster home. They have since been adopted. Now its her turn! ##1749383##

Story
Hi there! I'm Archie, a fun-loving pup who can’t wait to be your new best friend. I have a few favorite things: chew toys, belly rubs, snuggling, and going for walks. In fact, if we could spend our days walking and snuggling, I'd be the happiest dog around! I absolutely love going on adventures, especially if it means I get to be with you. Crowds and new people are my jam—I’m always on my best behavior and ready to make new friends. I’m fearless and curious about everything around me, which makes every outing exciting. My foster mom says I could use a tiny bit of caution, but I’m not sure what that means. I just want to check out everything! Oh, and I adore squirrels. I’m convinced they squeak like my toys! My foster mom thinks my enthusiasm for squirrels might extend to cats, so she keeps me away from them for now. At bedtime, I prefer snuggling on the bed, although I usually end up in my kennel. I don’t mind it, but I always try my luck for a cozy spot next to my foster mom first. One day, those sweet, hopeful eyes of mine might just win her over! When I’m not on an epic adventure, I enjoy playing with the other dogs here. If they’re too tired to play, I’m perfectly content chewing on a bone by my foster mom’s side. I know exactly where to sit to get treats and will lay quietly for hours once I find my spot. If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle, and adventurous companion, I’m your guy. Let’s make every day an adventure together! Quick Facts: Personality: Sweet, gentle, fearless, and adventurous Favorite Activities: Walks, snuggling, playing with toys, and exploring Special Skills: Making friends, being on best behavior in crowds, and finding treats Ideal Home: An active household ready for lots of adventures and snuggles Ready to meet your new best friend? I can’t wait to meet you! ##1968786##
