An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Meet Addie (Addison) - a pint-sized bundle of happiness! This 9-pound female Shih Tzu is proof that the sweetest things come in small packages. Despite being small in stature and with the littlest legs, she zooms around her foster parents’ house like she's training for the Olympics. At 4 years young, she's well educated in some important indoor manners. Addie is working on her housetraining, but she has a PhD in Professional Cuddling as well as a Master's degree in Belly Rub Appreciation. She has a sweet personality and beautiful black and silver coat. Some of her favorite activities include sleeping on the couch while you watch your favorite show and gazing out the window. Addie also loves to explore the backyard but hasn't quite figured out what to do on a leash. She rides in a car very well and gets along with other small dogs, cats and well-behaved older children. Addie was previously owned by a breeder and has had some puppies. Although she can be a little shy at first, she is well socialized and warms up very quickly. If you are looking for a compact companion who is equal parts affectionate and silly - she's the one! The following are requirements for Addie’s future family: 1. An adults only home were someone is home much of the day. Applications will be considered if there are children in the home over the age of ten and if they have had previous experience in gently interacting with small dogs. 2. A family who is patient and will continue Addie’s house training and leash training and will expose her to new dog-appropriate experiences. 3. Provide Addie with plenty of daily exercise and stimulation, including walks and supervised time in the yard. A secure, fenced yard would be ideal. 4. A home with another small dog would fine, but she would also love to be the sole focus of the family. 5. Live within an hour’s drive of Minneapolis, MN. 6. Agree to attend the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. Addie is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. She does have a cataract and retina detachment in her RIGHT eye, has lost vision in that eye, and the vision cannot be restored. Even though she has no sight in the eye, she requires daily drops in the eye to prevent future glaucoma. She will be having retinopexy surgery on her LEFT eye on January 29th to help ensure that the retina in her remaining good eye does not become detached. Addie will be available for adoption approximately one week after her eye surgery. Her adoption fee is $370.00 plus $31.54 sales tax for a total of $401.54. To meet Addie, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southtown PetCo in Bloomington, MN.

Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Billy is an awesome, 11 pound, Shih Tzu/Bichon mix who impresses his foster mom more and more every day! He was born May 5, 2023 and lived his life in a wire cage in a puppy mill. He has never experienced the life of a happy, free dog until now. He was purchased from the puppy mill, but in that home he was bullied and terrorized by a large dog. So they left Billy alone in a separate small enclosed room. Consequently his fears magnified and he became even more afraid and timid. He paced for hours at a time. That family had him for only two weeks before giving him to our rescue. But he is now experiencing a wonderful transformation! He has discovered love and freedom. Billy is cautious but very curious as he explores his foster home. He has found toys, and he just loves toys of all kinds! They have become his pacifiers and he often is found nestled amongst them, and chewing on several! He loves sleeping through the night with his foster mom, and also cuddling next to her on the couch. His potty training is a work in progress. It has been difficult because he does not want to stay outside long enough do completely do his business, especially because it’s so cold right now. But he shows promise and will improve as the temperatures warm. Billy loves to run and be free in a fenced yard as he has lots of energy. He is a young dog and will need lots of exercise! He walks well on a leash, so long walks will be a great benefit in warmer weather. Because he is just now experiencing the joys of being uncaged, we feel that his puppyhood is just now materializing. He loves to chew on most anything, he is high energy and loves to run, he is very playful, and very agile. He is also the sweetest boy you will ever find, and soaks up love and attention now that he finally knows what they are! Billy will wander over to you and look at you with his beautiful brown eyes asking to be on your lap, to be petted, and cuddled close. He does enjoy riding in the car. Even though Billy has lots of energy, he is still a timid boy who is fearful of loud, strange noises, and sudden movements and he startles easily. Here are the specifics of what his foster mom is requiring from an adopter. If you meet these requirements, please apply; and if you are lucky enough to adopt him, he will bring you great love, and joy! Billy will make you laugh all day long and sleep cuddled up to you all night! · Because Billy is a very young dog and can live 16+ years, applications will only be considered from age appropriate individuals who will be able to care for him for the rest of his life. · A quiet adults only home. He does not do well with lots of noise or activity or people coming and going. · A home where someone will be with him most of the day—he can be alone for a couple hours at a time, but not much longer, especially while he is being potty trained. Enrolling Billy in a puppy class and introducing him to new, safe situations would also help him gain confidence and form a stronger bond with his family. · Absolutely no kenneling or locking him in a small room alone—he had way too much of that already and it causes him emotional trauma. · A fenced yard where he can run and play and exercise like a puppy. His adopter must be out in the yard with him for playing and as reassurance to him that he will not be left alone or abandoned. · Billy would do well as an only dog, but could also live with another SMALL, gentle well behaved dog in the family. · A family who will allow Billy to sleep with them. · A home within 40 miles of the Twin Cities. · Billy’s new family is strongly encouraged to attend the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion each year in September. Billy is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $420.00 plus $35.81 sales tax for a total of $455.81. To meet Billy, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southtown PetCo in Bloomington, MN.

Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Apollo is a six-year-old twelve-pound male Shih Tzu. He came into rescue because his owner didn’t have time to devote to him and he was unfortunately left alone all day. He is now enjoying his foster mom's attention, and is a very happy boy. Now he is receiving the attention he deserves, and now that he has also been spruced up a bit with a fresh, new haircut he is a very handsome boy. Apollo has one of the best personalities that his foster mom, the veterinarian and staff, and the groomer have ever seen. Everyone has commented on how well behaved and endearing he is. He's so pliable and just goes with the flow. He's fine to entertain himself as he just hangs out near his foster mom while she works from home. He often snuggles with his foster fur brother and respects that his older foster fur sister prefers to be on her own. He sleeps with his foster mom and the other dogs in her big bed. He enjoys his quiet time and will seek you out if he wants to snuggle, but he always wants to be nearby. He's just so adorable and sweet. Apollo eats very well and is house trained. In the colder winter days, he heads right out to his foster mom's fenced yard, does his business, and then heads right back in to stay warm. He enjoys his walks on the leash and loves exploring, but gets cold quickly, so he doesn’t like to stay out for very long. He sometimes stays home while the foster siblings go for a walk because he's just too cold, and he does not mind being alone for a while and makes himself comfortable inside. He often wears a sweater indoors to stay warm. These are the requirements for Apollo’s new family: 1. Someone who is home much of the day. Apollo has been neglected and alone for all of his life, and he deserves to be in a family where that won’t happen again. 2. A family with children over the age of ten will be considered if the children have had experience in appropriate interaction with a small dog. But he is not accustomed to a home with lots of activity and a quiet home is an absolute must for him. 3. A home with another small dog would be okay, but Apollo would also love to be the center of his family’s life and get plenty of attention. 4. Must live within 75 miles of New Brighton, MN. 5. Family is encouraged to attend the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. Apollo is current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. He will be neutered and have a dental with extractions on March 12th. Applications are being accepted now for his adoption, but he cannot go to his new home until all medical procedures are completed and he has recovered. Apollo's adoption fee is $370.00 plus $33.39 sales tax for a total of $403.39. To meet Apollo, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southtown PetCo in Bloomington, MN

Peanut is a 10 pound, male Shih Tzu mix who was surrendered to rescue because his owner could no longer properly care for him due to lack of time. He has been SUCH a joyful addition to our rescue. Peanut is VERY cuddly and loves to be the center of your attention. He will spend the majority of his day cuddled up next to you or following you around. He does love to play fetch with smaller, fluffy toys and does great on a leash. While he is currently fostered with another larger dog, Peanut would probably prefer to be the only dog in your house. Mainly because if he sees you giving attention to another dog, then he will come right up and try to steal that attention to himself! He prefers to be right by your side, does great on car rides and absolutely LOVES meeting new people. Seriously, he's never met a stranger. He has a good recall with his name, and we are working on sit and other typical commands. He currently goes outside about 4-6 times a day, and is pretty good about informing you if it's time for him to go out. He does have a tendency to mark in carpeted areas if other pets have marked there, otherwise he is pretty well housetrained. He loves his foster parents’ fenced in yard, but he wants you out there with him and you will have to encourage him to go potty some of the time! Peanut is a younger, active little man who wants to be your whole world. He loves to be around you and play fetch at least 3 times per day. We are hoping his new family will be able to be home with him for the majority of the day and also find a family that will include him and make it a priority that he can join all activities. - Following are the requirements for Peanut's new family: Peanut is still a young dog. Because Shih Tzus often live 16+ years, applications will only be considered from age appropriate individuals who will be able to provide the care and activity necessary for the rest of his life. A family who can be home with Peanut for much of the day for companionship and also to enable him to go outside regularly. - Peanut is not high energy, but he still needs a family that can provide appropriate mental and physical stimulation for him. This includes daily walks and providing training, activity and the stimulation needed for a dog of his age. - It is unknown how Peanut is with children. Applications will be considered if children are over the age of ten and have had previous experience interacting gently with a small dog. ·A secure fenced yard would be great, but is not a deal breaker as long as Peanut can have other means of outdoor activity. · Peanut could live with other pets, as long as they mostly ignored him. But he probably would prefer to be an only dog who could have your undivided attention. · Live within 40 miles of Coon Rapids, MN. · Agree to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held in September each year. Peanut is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. He is scheduled to have a dental on March 17th, but applications are being accepted now for his adoption. His adoption fee is $420.00 plus $37.91 sales tax, for a total of $457.91. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Wait till you meet Big B! He is a charming 5 year-old, white and tan male Shih Tzu. He is chill, sweet, and will melt your heart. He is extremely gentle and mild-mannered and enjoys meeting new people. His foster family LOVES all the cuddles he gives! He is a very snuggly lap dog who spends most of his time indoors, but also walks beautifully on a leash for short walks. He enjoys some playtime and companionship with other small dogs. A fenced backyard would be great, but not a deal breaker, as long as his family will commit to giving Big B time to play outside as needed. He knows a few basic commands, and his foster parents are helping him learn a bit more. He is very eager to please, and it would be great if his new family will continue with his basic training. He is fully house-trained, listens well, and does not beg for people food! Big B is very bonded to people and needs a family that is home much of the day. He also needs to sleep in bed with his family, which is a MUST! He will do well with another small dog, as he was used to one in his previous home, but he would be okay being the sole focus of attention too. These are the requirements for Big B’s new family: 1. Must be home most of the day (gone no more than 2-3 hours at a time) and include Big B in their daily activities, and taking him with them in appropriate situations. 2. An adults only home, or a family with children over the age of ten who have experience in gently interacting with a small dog. 3. Must welcome Big B to sleep in bed at night with his family. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST. 4. Will give him adequate outdoor exercise, including short daily walks and hopefully a fenced yard where he can freely explore without being on a leash. 5. Agree to NEVER USE A RETRACTABLE LEASH. Using a retractable leash violates the adoption contract. 6. Live within 60 miles of Saint Paul, MN. 7. Commit to attending the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. We hope you don’t find these requirements to be restrictive. If you understand the reason for having requirements and accept them, then you may be the family for Big B! He is just a delightful, loving boy who will bring a special family many years of joy and happiness. Big B is current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. He is scheduled to be neutered on March 5th but will be available for adoption after a short recovery period in his foster home. Applications are being accepted now for his adoption. His adoption fee is $370.00 plus $33.39 sales tax for a total of $403.39. To meet Big B, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph.
